Introduction
Hello all. My name is Seth and this is your daily devotion. If you’re into role playing games of any sort, I have the perfect plot for a quest. Listen closely.
While taking a walk, one starry night, you feel a gentle breeze pass over you. Faint whispers on the wind seem to call your name. After a short while, you finally respond to the call.
Suddenly, you’re blinded by a brilliant light. You can sense that someone is with you, but you’re unable to look, due to the light’s intensity. You hear a voice, calm but full of power and authority.
The Quest
“Be not afraid, my child. For you have been made favorable in my sight and I have chosen you a very important task. Hear me. The world is cursed and the dead walk amongst the living.
Within the earth lies the mighty dragon. He is wicked and deceitful. He subdues the world and devours all life in it, leaving soulless husks, made to worship him.
I have sent you to do battle alongside me against this great evil. To do so, you must seek out my sacred armor, the only defense against the dragon’s fierce attacks. You must also obtain my mighty sword, the only weapon sharp enough to pierce his scales.
Do not go alone. Instead, go out and recruit whomever will venture with you, who holds fast to what is true and shuns evil.
Your reward shall be great. You and all who are with you shall be made royalty and heirs to my kingdom. All that I have shall be yours. Trust in me as you go and though you stumble, you will never fail. Do you accept this quest?”
The Quest is Real
Pretty cool, right? Right? Regardless, I have to tell you this. That story you’ve just heard and read isn’t just a story. It’s very real, the dragon, the armor, the reward, all of it. This quest has existed since the origin of sin and there is still a call to those brave enough to accept it.
I’m referring to the many prophecies and promises found in the Bible. Jesus is going to war against Satan and He wants us, His redeemed and beloved, to join Him. What about the armor and weapon need to beat the devil? Check this out.
Ephesians 6:13-18 “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”
Conclusion/Prayer
If you think that dragon slaying and divine powers are only found in fantasy, you couldn’t be more wrong. Your walk with Jesus is an adventure, a quest greater than anything your local dungeon master can come up with. The rewards are greater to. Trust in Christ, fight the good fight and receive eternal life, freedom from evil and a lasting inheritance by the grace of God. Will you accept His quest? Let’s pray on this.
Lord Jesus, by your grace, we have been given the opportunity of a lifetime, to fight by your side and attain victory over all evil. Reveal the great adventure you have in store for us. Give us the desire to answer your call and join your ranks. Equip us for the battles ahead. we ask this in your mighty name. Amen.
