The God of Timing

Introduction

Hello all. My name is Seth and this is your daily devotion. Just moments before I wrote this devotion, I had no idea whatsoever what I would write about. I was thinking about God’s timing, but didn’t know direction to take it in. That’s when God showed me this.

Habakkuk 2:1-3 “I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

This is basically a summary of my experiences since i began writing devotionals. I’ve never had a plan, never kept a schedule. There has never been any organization in regards to these devotions. They simply came to me when the time was right and until they did, I waited. The ideas would always come the same day they were due and almost always skirting the edge of my established “dead lines”.

How God Views Time

The more I think about it, the more i realize that scripture not only summarizes my work, but my entire life, disarray and chaos followed by perfectly timed results. I barely make it out by the skin of my teeth. This may sound terrible to many of you, but hear me when I say that all of this chaos isn’t actually chaos at all.

You see, God doesn’t keep a schedule either. He doesn’t check a calendar and He has no clocks or alarms set. How is His timing so perfect then? The answer is simple. God doesn’t answer to time. Time answers to God. His timing is perfect because the time is only right when He says it is. The party doesn’t start until He gets there and it doesn’t end until He leaves.

Here I was, begging God to give me an idea before time ran out, but what was His response? “Who told you that time was running out? I’m the only one who knows the time. Is your god a clock? Does that alarm wake you up in the morning or do I? Who is your master?”

Conclusion/Prayer

The bottom line is that God is the only one we answer to. We do what what He says, when he says. We try to make our own schedules so that we can function in this world, but I’m here to tell you that He is not checking our time tables before He makes a decision.

We can’t rush Him and we can’t slow Him down. He cannot be made to fit into our schedules. He is the only constant and all is relative to Him. If you think yourself a slave to time, watch as He takes your time away from you. Who do you serve then? God made time and He made it for us to use, not to be bound by. Let’s pray on this.

Father, You are the beginning and the end of all. Thank You for Your perfect timing and forgive us when we accuse you of delaying. We ask this in your name. Amen.

That’s all I’ve got for you. Go in peace.
