Introduction
Hello all! My name is Seth and this is your daily devotion. Let’s jump right into the scripture to start this off.
John 1:4-5-“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
Imagine that the sun has set and night has fallen. There’s a storm outside. Suddenly the lights go out and you’re in the dark. What’s your immediate reaction? Find a light source, right? So, you fumble around in the dark and when you finally light a candle or turn on your flashlight, you feel relief. I personally will wake up in the middle of night when the power goes out. There’s just this innate feeling i get that something is wrong.
Our Perception of Light
It turns out that it’s in our nature to prefer light over darkness. Darkness impairs our vision. It causes to stumble. We worry about what lurks in it and become afraid. We know in our hearts we need the light. We need Jesus.
If we believe that Jesus is our light and vision, why do we, who hold the light, choose to sit in the dark? If we have Christ, then the light is always with us. Why do we wallow in fear and confusion when we can simply turn on the light? It’s almost like we forget.
We allow darkness to consume and overwhelm us to the point that we can’t even think about light. We’re so trapped by it that we forget light ever existed. There was never light. We were always in the dark. How does that happen when we have the blessing of knowing Jesus?
Bring the Light
Many people were born in the darkness and have never seen the light. They are blind and don’t know it. Despair, misery, disappointment, helplessness and the cruelties of the world are all they know. We see this, but we want to keep the light for ourselves. We’d rather hide from the world, despite holding its only hope in our hearts.
This is a command from the Lord, who has blessed you with the knowledge of truth and the message of salvation. Walk out into the dark, bearing the light, and bring sight to those who wander blind and truth to those who are confused. Do not be afraid, for if you walk with Christ, you walk in the light and the darkness has no power.
To Those Without Light/Prayer
If you’re listening and you don’t know Jesus, make no mistake, you are in the dark. Call out to Him and He will come to you. Jesus does not fear the dark. The dark fears Him and cannot even fathom His power.
If a light bearer comes to you, do not resist them. Don’t hide from what you don’t understand, but instead allow your curiosity to move you closer. The darkness is quiet and comforting, but it deceives you. Do not allow yourself to be caught unaware. There is so much for in store for you than confusion and hopelessness. I hope that you will realize how much you are loved by God. Let’s pray on this.
Lord, you are our vision and awareness. We all wander blind without you. Be our light forever and reveal yourself to those who have not seen you. Send your light bearers out into the night and rescue your children. We ask this in your mighty name. Amen.
That’s all I’ve got for you. Go in peace.
